japanese

This part of the site is meant to help newcomers in the language to make the startup easier. Whether it actually does that or not is for you to decide!
I wanted to split the language in parts so it is easier to get an overview of the stuff as you can see in the menubar to the right.

Where to start?
It's pretty tough to start learning a new language. The market is filled with products, most of them proclaiming to be the worlds solution to everything which they rarely are. Besides that is the fact that many people responds different to the different learning methods.
I'm at no means an expert in Japanese, so don't expect this site to be the only site to rely on. Under the link "My experiences" to the right is a list of different sites, books and things I've used to learn the language including my opinions of these sites.

As all other languages, Japanese has a written and an oral part.

The Japanese writing system mainly contains three scripts: Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji.
To learn more about the writing system, take a look at this link: "The Japanese Writing System"

A good way to start is to find a program or course where you can learn learn the language through oral exercises. This way you soon get the feeling that you're moving forward. Besides that I would recommend to begin learning the kana (hiragana and katakana) at the side. Take one script at a time. It is recommended to start with hiragana.
An easy way to get familiar with the scripts is to take the signs from my page under "Hiragana" and "Katakana" and print them. Then make a game where a character is on one side, ex. "か", and and it's romaji equivalent "ka" is on the other. This way you get a game where you have to memorize the different characters. Besides that it is very useful to practice drawing the characters as it cements them in your head.
Because the characters needs to be drawn in a certain way, it's advisable to find either a book or a site that shows you how to do it.
